Andre dos Santos, originally from Brazil, embarked on a journey that led him from sports to education and healthcare. His transition from a dedicated athlete to a healthcare professional is a testament to his adaptability and commitment to personal growth. As a first-generation college graduate, Andre earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in physical education and a postgraduate degree in physiology and kinesiology in Brazil.
Andre鈥檚 athletic career was marked by impressive achievements as a black belt Jiu-Jitsu world champion and MMA fighter. These experiences honed his discipline, leadership, and communication skills and paved the way for his successful transition into the healthcare industry. He managed gyms in Brazil and Newport Beach, CA, where he specialized in managing complex health conditions such as diabetes, CHF, osteoporosis, and obesity and educated employers on biomechanics, physiology, and nutrition through various speeches and seminars.
After retiring from competitive sports, Andre focused on coaching UFC fighters, jiu-jitsu competitors, and stunt performers. He furthered his education by earning a Master鈥檚 in Physician Assistant Practice from USC and a Doctorate in Medical Science from Butler University. His clinical experience spans roles as an EMT, Field Training Officer, and Physician Assistant in emergency medicine and orthopedics.
Andre’s research interests are focused on leadership and Physician Assistant education. His capstone project, titled “Evaluating the Comprehensive Effects of Physician Assistant Program Curriculum on Students’ Mental and Physical Well-being in California: A Longitudinal Comparative Study across Didactic and Clinical Phases,鈥 Aimed to identify key factors affecting student wellness and offer insights for curriculum improvements.
